Thomas F. Marshall Scholarship Fund established at Rush County Community Foundation
August 24, 2006 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipThe families of Thomas F. Marshall and William J. Herdrich recently created a new endowed scholarship fund at the Rush County Community Foundation in memory of Thomas F. Marshall.
The “Thomas F. Marshall Scholarship Fund†was established in memory of Judge Thomas Marshall by his wife Marylu, William and Debbie Herdrich and Heather Herdrich Meckes in order to keep Judge Marshall’s name a part of our community forever.
To be eligible for this scholarship, the recipient must:
- Be a full time college student in their third year or above in good standing. Preference will be given to a student studying in the fields of mental health, social work or law.
- They must be a Rush County resident or a direct descendent of a Rush County resident. Descendants must provide name of their direct descendant from Rush County.
- The recipient may apply and receive this scholarship more than one year.
- No relative or direct descendent of Thomas F Marshall or William and Debbie Herdrich is eligible for this scholarship.
“Tom was a dear friend to my family as well as many other Rush County residents,†Heather Meckes said. “He was a strong man with a huge heart. We witnessed on many accounts Tom giving of himself to our community, especially to the youth. He has privately helped so many people. This scholarship will continue to help our youth in his areas of interests, which is something that he would be doing if he were still here with us today.â€
“The Foundation is very pleased and honored to assist these families in establishing this Fund in Tom’s memory,†Garry Cooley, RCCF executive director, said. “From contributions we have received from around the state it is safe to say that Tom touched the lives of not only Rush County citizens but also those throughout the state. We are very pleased that his name will be connected to the Rush County community through this Fund to help Rush County students forever.â€
If you would like to make a donation to this fund you may send your donation to the Rush County Community Foundation, 117 N Main St, Rushville, IN 46173 with a note included that you would like it added to the Thomas F. Marshall Scholarship Fund.
