Hamburg Honors Scholarship Fund Aiding 19 Freshmen this Year
August 31st, 2006 - Posted in Education, ScholarshipRecent graduates of Hamburg High School are beginning their first year in colleges and universities. Nineteen of these college freshmen received scholarships administered by the Hamburg High School Honors Scholarship Board. These scholarships are funded by alumni, various businesses in the area, school patrons, organizations, and other interested parties.
The purpose of this program is to encourage and recognize academic excellence. In order to receive one of these scholarships, an applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 through seven semesters of high school, have followed the academic program of study, be of good character, and use the scholarship at an accredited college or university. One-half of the scholarship is made payable to the chosen college or university at the beginning of the first semester. If the recipient maintains a grade point average of 2.5 or better in first semester course work, passing at least 12 semester hours, the remainder will be paid the second semester. All hours must be earned during the full semester at the college the student is attending. If an award is not renewed the second semester, the unpaid portion will go into the general fund. From the field of qualified applicants, a total of $38,885 in scholarships were awarded to 19 graduates.
