TESDA Caraga implements work scholarship program

The Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) Caraga Regional Office thru its provincial offices has announced that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) is now being implemented nationwide.

In Caraga region, the TESDA follow suit which becomes part of strategies to support President Macapagal Arroyo’s ten point agenda aimed to provide scholarship grants either full or partial, to high school graduates, including the employed but ready for career change, underemployed with or without experience and willing to undergo training in Business Process Outsourcing (RPO) industry such as call center, medical and legal transcription animation and software development and other industries with critical skills provided they pass the assessment and profiling.

Specifically, the main objective of the scholarship training program is to provide skills and competencies to job seekers through appropriate training programs that are directly connected to existing jobs for immediate employment. It also seeks to empower private education and training institutions to offer relevant training program that meet job requirements.

To qualify for scholarship, the applicant must be at least a high school graduate, 18-55 years old, and must pass the English language pre-training assessment administered by TESDA Assessors or Assessors of call center companies duly accredited by TESDA.

Applicants who wish to avail themselves of the scholarship grant will have to undergo pre-assessment testing for free. This is being called as Pro-Speak 7 test or seven minutes assessment thru telephone where grading of the applicant’s English Proficiency, Fluency, Pronunciation, Sentence Mastery and Listening Skills is made. The process will take only 15 minutes after which the results or rating will be determined thru the use of computer.

Applicants or graduates who will get the score of 70% or more are considered “hireables” and they shall be referred to any call center agents. The applicants who will get thee score of 55 to 69 will be considered “near-hires” and are then entitled to received certificate worth P5,000.00 which can be presented to any training center offering 100-hour Finishing Course for Call Center Agent (CCA) duly registered by TESDA. Applicant whose score is below 55 shall not be qualified for call center job. They shall be given the multi-Aptitude test Battery to determine which other priorities of the PGMA-training for work scholarship Project (PGMA-TWSP) may be availed of.

All provincial applicants will be endorsed to TESDA Caraga Regional Office. Testing schedule is set every Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 11:30 in the morning and 1:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon.

Caraga Region was given fifty slots for scholarship program. When the free testing of applicants for CCA started in Caraga on July 1, 2006, TESDA came up with its assessment on seven “hireable” and 222 “near-hires” or a total of 29 qualified applicants.
