45 Northern Nevada students named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists

Northern Nevada is home to 45 of the state’s 90 high school seniors named as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, the organization has announced.

The students are among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who have the opportunity to continue in the competition for one of the 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $33 million, that will be offered next spring.

The following is a list of the local semifinalists and the schools they attend.

Carson High School: Colin Crowley, Joshua Gransberg and Pamela Putnam.

Galena High School: John Badwick and Nick Williams.

Incline High School: Monica Ceragioli and Alethia Williams.

Bishop Manogue High School: Brenda Everling and Zachary Johnson.

McQueen High School: Paul Gafni, Francis McKee, James Meservy, Ryan Plater, Ashley Robbins and Lily Sims-Williams.

Reed High School: Raymond Hooft, Spencer Johnson, Edwin Sweeney, Steven Sweeney and Yilok Wong

Reno High School: Tyler Aas, Theodore Albright, Maxwell Alderman, Scott Baez, Bryan Chuan, Lauren Dwyer, Dana Goin, Christopher Hettinger, Hayley Huntley, Reem Itani, Jeff Knafelc, Laura Kreidberg, Emily McAllister, Rachel Miller, Kevin Peterson, Melanie Scheible, Sydney Ward and Michael Webb.

Sage Ridge School: Michael Urbano

TMCC High School: Muir Morrison

Whittell High School: Claire McLeod

Wooster High School: Min Fang, Martin Murphy and Hayley Smith-Kirkham.

Home schooled: Jonathan Lutes
