Nigeria: Ika USA Offers Scholarship to Indigenes
September 14, 2006 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipThe Ika National Association USA, Inc., a non-profit organisation, is awarding a four-year scholarship to one needy student per Clan - a total of 12 students in any accredited Nigerian tertiary institution. The Clans include those of Ika North East, Ika South Local Government areas and Ika Communities in the eastern part of Edo State (Owa ri Uzor, Igbanke, Oligie, Ottah, Ekpon etc). The Ika indigenes living in the United States of America say the scholarships, among other projects (the equipment of the Ika Public Library and the General Hospital Pediatric ward construction) is an act of giving back to their homeland, Ika in Delta State of Nigeria.
Beneficiaries must be indigenes of the stated can and must be currently enrolled or accepted for admission by any Nigerian tertiary institution (University, Polytechnic, College of Education and School of Nursing). If enrolled, they must be in good academic standing with a minimum grade of B cumulative average. They must demonstrate NEED (explain why you should be awarded the scholarship).
The award will be N25, 000.00 per academic year for four years. Interested applicants can download application Form INAUI-002 from www.Ikausa.org. The application must be accompanied by the student’s official academic transcript or an admission letter if yet to be enrolled in an institution.
Other requirements are a letter of recommendation from any of the community leaders (Obi or Chairman/Secretary of the Local Government), photocopy of student’s identification card, current full size photograph and a letter of recommendation from the Head of Department or Dean of the student’s faculty with phone number and e-mail address.
Applicants are also required to write a two-paged essay titled, ‘Making Ika a livable Community’. Deadline for submission is September 30.
