UAPB announces teacher scholarship deadline

Applications for the Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship Program are now available for the spring 2007 semester at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and at all two-year and four-year colleges and universities.

UAPB administers the scholarship program to address the shortage of public school teachers in the Delta, particularly black and Hispanic teachers.

The program awards up to $ 1, 500 per academic year (fall and spring semesters ) for fulltime enrollment and up to $ 750 per academic year for part-time enrollment.

To qualify, an applicant must be black, Hispanic, Asian or American Indian; be enrolled in, or accepted for enrollment at, a baccalaureate degree-granting institution of higher education or at an accredited state-supported community college.

Candidates must submit an application, along with all official transcripts, to the Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship Program, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, P. O. Box 4986, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71601.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 10.
