Kenya: SA Splash Scholarship On Sensational Kenyans
September 30th, 2006 - Posted in Education, ScholarshipKenya’s sensational swimmers, Rama Vyombo and Pina Ercolano, have landed a three-year swimming scholarship in South Africa.
Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) second vice-chairman, Joe Mutune, confirmed that the two have won a scholarship deal through the federation.
“KSF in collaboration with Olympic Solidarity, managed to secure two scholarship package for Vyombo and Ercolano,” said Mutune yesterday.
But Mutune said Ercolano has to clear her examinations at Hillcrest School before she proceeds to South Africa.
For Vyombo, Mutune said he was free to travel to Johannesburg for his scholarship.
Previously, Kim Jin Woo and Anthony Lihalakha won such scholarships.
Vyombo and Ercolano are fresh from representing the country in the Africa Swimming Championships, which ended in Dakar, Senegal last week.
The duo splashed their way to the finals of their respective events.
Kenya was placed fourth after winning nine medals in the championship.
Meanwhile, the KSF calendar of event for 2007 start nest weekend in Mombasa.
Federation’s Committee Member, Winnie Kamau said yesterday that the calendar splash off with the national Short course Age-groups on October 7 and 8 with the national Long Course Age-Groups set for Nairobi on November 11 and 12 in Nairobi.
