November 2nd, 2006 - Posted in Education, ScholarshipAPPLICATIONS for health sector scholarships close tomorrow.
The South Auckland Health Foundation offers the scholarships with support from Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB).
This year AUT midwifery scholarships are being offered and coincide with the university plan to open a new satellite school within Manukau next year.
Scholarships will be awarded to Counties Manukau residents, from recent school leavers to those wanting to return to the workforce. Applicants will be considered based on their financial need, academic record and community involvement.
CMDHB director of midwifery Thelma Thompson encourages people to apply.
“Midwifery is a very rewarding profession and Counties Manukau is a vibrant place to live and work,†she says. “We need more midwives working in our area with our growing population.
“CMDHB is thankful to SAH Foundation for this opportunity to support our people into this amazing profession, to provide excellent care for the women and families in our area.â€
Past scholarship winners have undertaken courses in nursing, medicine, dentistry, psychology, pharmacy and health interpreting. The final selection of students will reflect the cultural diversity of the Counties Manukau area. Each scholarship has a value of up to $5000.
Applications forms are available on www.sahf.org.nz.
