Scholarships The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has teamed with Global Learning Semesters Inc. in a decade-long partnership to get more Hispanic students to study abroad. The centerpiece of the effort is Global Learning’s commitment to make available more than $8 million in scholarships to HACU students through the Hispanic Study Abroad Scholars program.

HACU and Global Learning agreed to work on special initiatives to further increase the pool of scholarship money. Spain’s University of Alcala will be the first special initiative partner.

According to the two entities, Hispanic students study abroad at about half the rate of all college students. That’s due to limited awareness, affordability and the capabilities of the U.S.-based institutions, Global Learning reports.

Another aspects of the partnership include having Global Learning make its expertise in study abroad office administration available to HACU member institutions through seminars and its software for study abroad office administration.

“I have no doubt that the best business executives, teachers, scientists and artists of today and tomorrow will be individuals who have broadened their horizons by studying, living and traveling abroad,” said Global Learning Chairman Andreas Polemitis.

Scholarships will be available starting in the spring 2007 semester. Students or advisors interested in the scholarships should visit: www.StudyAbroadScholars.org or call (877) 300-7010, ext. 6.
