Pink Ladies holding unique scholarship raffle

Quietly going about their duties, the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital Pink Ladies shed sunshine through the hallways, relieve nurses of some minor jobs and offer patrons a wide variety of unusual items in their Gift Shop. They also raise funds for a scholarship for the Licensed Vocation Nursing Program at Cerro Coso Community College.

This year, the Pink Ladies have acquired a beautifully crafted Nativity set, for which they are selling tickets for an “opportunity drawing” on Dec. 15.

Tickets are 50 cents each or three for $1 and available in the Gift Shop Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will go into the scholarship fund.

The Pink Ladies Volunteer Auxiliary of the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital awards three scholarships each year to students in the LVN program. The scholarship fund was established in 1977 in honor of Jan Hoagland, founder of the Pink Ladies, who passed away in 1976. Carole Poppen, Kay Hall and Bobbie Ward are chairpersons for the scholarship program.

Currently, 67 Pink Ladies run the Gift Shop, man the hospitality cart - delivering coffee to hospital visitors - take care of the reception desk and the admitting desk in the Emergency Room, transport paperwork and orders as needed, distribute menus for the dietary department, and deliver supplements between meals to patients.

“There’s always a need for more volunteers,” said Kay Hall. “Drop by the Gift Shop to get an application. It’s a wonderful way to make a difference.”

While in the Gift Shop, check out the amazing variety of Christmas ornaments and decor, stuffed animals, jewelry, glassware, and other stocking stuffers.

“People are often thrilled to discover the Gift Shop,” said Hall.

The Pink Ladies’ Gift Shop is adjacent to the main lobby of the hospital.
