The Year Five scholarship examination, postponed twice due to violence in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, is to be held tomorrow at two centres, Vakarai and Kathirveli. But sources from the area said that many people have left the area and live in refugee camps in other areas.

Some 225 students face the competitive examination at the two examination centres, situated in territory held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

The Commissioner of Examinations Anura Edirisinghe said the examination papers have already been dispatched to the area. A temporary peaceful situation is prevailing there. However, sources from the Eastern Province said many families have left the Vakarai and Kathirveli areas and fewer students will participate in the examination.
