The first baby to arrive in Des Moines in 2007 was born to Eric and Wendy Longden of Des Moines.

“Denver” came into the world at 1:03 a.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Wendy Longden told NewsChannel 8 that the doctors and nurses were buzzing soon after Denver was born.

“They were all excited last night after we had him,” Longden said. “They started calling hospitals to see. They all came in and said, ‘We won!’”

The Longden’s said they named him Denver because of dad’s love for the Denver Broncos.

Denver received a $500 scholarship from College Savings Iowa and a gift basket from Baby’s R Us in honor of his “first baby of the year” status.
