The Peg Bond Scholarship will be awarded this spring to a student pursuing studies in the visual or performing arts at a four-year college, university or professional school.

Students must be residents of the city of Batavia or Batavia School District 101. The scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley.

Applications are available beginning today.

The scholarship is based on academic ability, without reference to financial need. Students must have demonstrated a history of community service through prior participation in civic or church activities, within the school setting or in community-based organizations such a scouting or volunteering for charitable causes.

Students who attend Batavia High School may obtain a Community Foundation Scholarship Program application from their guidance counselors. Students must return their application materials to the school by Feb. 7.

Other eligible students may receive information and applications for these scholarships by calling Jim King at the Community Foundation office, (630) 896-7800.

The program’s 140 grants go to students who will attend college or a vocational program on a full-time basis.

The bulk of the scholarships are offered to graduating high school seniors who reside within the foundation’s service area, which includes the greater Aurora area, the Tri-Cities and Kendall County.

Students can obtain scholarship materials from the guidance offices at Aurora Central Catholic, Aurora Christian, Batavia, East Aurora, Geneva, Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, Kaneland, Marmion, Newark, Oswego, Oswego East, Plainfield South, Plano, Rosary, St. Charles East, St. Charles North, Waubonsie Valley, West Aurora and Yorkville high schools.

IMSA students are eligible for Community Foundation scholarships only if their permanent residence is within the foundation’s service area.

Some scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students. Those applications may be obtained by calling or emailing the Community Foundation office.

Financial need and academic ability are the basis for most foundation scholarships.

Deadline for receipt of application materials is Feb. 7.
