PNG SP Cup side, the Lae Builders & Contractors Bombers, have become the first semi-professional club in the country to develop a scholarship agreement with the local Milo Schoolboy competition in its region.

The first three players to take advantage of the new scholarship system include, 16-years-old, Kingston Pisep and 18-years-old, Roy Kela and Frank Kagai. Under the scholarship agreement, the players will receive training equipment, assistance with school fees and assistance with levies associated with representative duties.

Players will also train with the Bombers’ SP Cup side, however will not play in the SP Cup in 2007.

The scholarship system is designed to let players focus on their education and Rugby League without having to worry as much about finances and the burden it can have on many PNG families.
