Vietnam: International education symposium opens
February 6, 2007 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipThe British Council, in co-ordination with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, today opened a two-day symposium on international education and employability in Hanoi.
The symposium is expected to lead to concrete proposals for co-operation and research and encourage the development of strategic alliances and networks.
This symposium kicks off a series of at least six in East Asia. Keith Davies, British Council director, said that: “Vietnam was chosen for the launch symposium because there is a growing appreciation of Vietnam’s fast-developing education sector and a desire to work together on the part of both UK and regional partners”.
The symposium series is part of the second UK Prime Minister’s Initiative for international education, which sees strategic alliances and partnerships as key to developing strong national education systems.
Nguyen Thien Nhan, Miniter of Education and Training, Bill Rammel, UK Minister of State for Lifelong Learning and Further and Higher Education and other education policymakers and experts from the UK, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippine, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei and Vietnam joined the symposium.
The Hanoi symposium concides with the visit of Bill Rammel, UK Minister of State for Lifelong Learning and Further and Higher Education to Vietnam.
The next one on Trans-national education is expected to be held in Kuala Kumpur in March this year.
