The Sadie Harter Cooner Endowed Scholarship will be awarded again this year to a deserving student or students from Bamberg or the surrounding area.

This scholarship was presented to Trinity United Methodist Church in honor of Mrs. Cooner by her nieces, Anne Harter Wilson and Marian B. Harter of Salisbury, N.C. in December 2000. Cooner was a valuable member of Trinity, serving as organist for 55 years and choir director for 36 of those years. She died in April 2003 at the age of 104.

The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student of music, preferably organ or piano. If no student of applied music makes application, the award may be given to one studying in other areas in the musical field or related arts.

A member of Trinity UMC will be given preference; however, if there is no applicant from Trinity, a resident of Bamberg or the surrounding community may be awarded the scholarship. Need will be a consideration. A person of any age may apply, and applicants may reapply as long as they are eligible.

Applications, with supporting material, must be returned to Trinity UMC, % Sadie Harter Cooner Scholarship Committee, PO Box 335, Bamberg, SC 29003 by April 1, 2007. Application forms for the scholarship are available at the office at Trinity UMC, Bamberg (phone 803-245-4275) and the office of the Guidance Counselor at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School, Bamberg (phone 803-245-3034).

The scholarship recipients will be expected to attend a designated worship service at which time the award will be presented.
