San Francisco’s eQuality Scholarship Collaborative, the oldest corporate scholarship program in the country dedicated to providing financial aid to graduating high school seniors who have promoted understanding of and equality for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, once again is offering scholarships to graduating seniors.

This year, the scholarship amount has been doubled to $5,000. Ten or more scholarships will be awarded to assist with post-secondary educational expenses. eQuality scholars are chosen for their involvement in the GLBT community, demonstrated leadership, extracurricular activities and scholastic achievement. Applicants must be graduating from a high school in northern or central California.

The deadline for this year’s applications is Feb. 28. Scholarship winners will be honored at an awards dinner on May 4 at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco.

The eQuality Scholarship Collaborative is the joint effort of a group of organizations based in the San Francisco Bay Area. It began in 1989 as a scholarship program by Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s gay and lesbian employee association, now PG&E PrideNetwork. Sponsors also include Kaiser Permanente’s KP Pride and Genentech Out and Equal employee associations and nonprofit partners Ally Action and Out & Equal Workplace Advocates. The Collaborative is a volunteer effort with representatives from each of the sponsoring organizations.
