Zachary Jobin, a senior at Westbrook High School, has been selected as a finalist for a National Merit Scholarship. This award, sponsored by the National Merit Program, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s outstanding academic achievement.

“Zach is an extremely gifted student who excels academically particularly in the areas of math and science” said Westbrook High School Principal March Gousse. “He has exceeded performance standards in all facets of his academic program while working hard to fulfill his potential. We are very proud of Zach, he deserves each and every accolade bestowed upon him.”

More than 1.4 million juniors in nearly 21,000 high schools entered the 2007 National Merit Program by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide semifinalists named in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program pool of semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

Jobin currently holds a grade point average of 96.3, and is active in a variety of clubs and service organizations at Westbrook High School. In addition to these accomplishments Jobin is also a volunteer youth football coach, recipient of a foreign language award, and is vice-president of the Interact club. He is the son of Mark and Carolyn Jobin of Westbrook.
