Applications available for Chester Smith Memorial Scholarship
April 28th, 2007 - Posted in Education, ScholarshipThe family of Chester Smith Sr. has announce3d that applications for a scholarship to be given to a 2007 Yerington High School graduating senior in the name of Chester Smith Sr. are now being accepted.
Applications were available as of April 3, 2007 at the YHS Counselor’s office and at the Mason Valley News office at 207 W. Goldfield Ave. in Yerington.
The scholarship was created in memory of their father who lived most of his life in Yerington, and saw all of his 10 children attending Yerington schools.
The 2007 scholarship amount will be determined by the family and any graduating senior at YHS can apply. The recipients must plan to further their education at any recognized school of post-secondary education, including, but not limited to, community/junior colleges, trade schools, colleges or universities. The GPA requirement is 2.5 and higher, must list all school and community activities, and must have lettered in two varsity sports.
Last year’s recipient was Sarah Kilgore, who is attending the University of Nevada, Reno. She was awarded a $3,000 scholarship.
Deadline for applications must be postmarked by May 18, 2007. Applications are also available through the mail by writing to P.O. Box 719, Yerington, NV, 89447.
