McCook Community Foundation Announces Haag Scholarship Winner

McCook Community Foundation proudly announces the 2007 recipient of the Bernard and Nelda Haag Scholarship. Through the generosity of Nelda and the late Bernard Haag, a $1,000 scholarship will be presented to Dylan Ruppert, a senior at McCook High School. Mr. Ruppert is planning to attend Colby Community College in the fall to study beef management and ag business. He plans to come back into the family farm/ranch after college and rebuild his grandfather’s place that has been in his family for 109 years.

Dylan was named the Outstanding 4-H member in Red Willow County and currently serves as youth representative on the 4-H Council. He won the prestigous Premier Horse Exhibitor Award at Aksarben competing against 4-Hers from several states. Dylan has successly shown horses on a statewide level and was part of the third place Hippology team at the State Horse Expo. He has also shown cattle through 12 years of 4-H, served in Junior Leaders and helped new 4-Hers with their livestock projects. Through Bit n’Spur 4-H Club, Dylan organized a benefit horse show fun days for the Domestic Abuse Center and for an injured 4-H Club member. Dylan also has his own cow herd while working for his parents, David and Darla Ruppert. They operate the Rocking Heart Stock ranch north of McCook.

The Haag scholarship is based on applicants extracurricular activities, leadership, work/volunteer experience, personal essay and financial need. McCook Community Foundation through its affiliation with the Nebraska Community Foundation, receives tax deductible charitable donations to fund numerous community betterment projects in southwest Nebraska.
