The church a Vernon soldier attended has set up a scholarship to honor the fallen hero.
Twenty year old army corporal Ryan Collins of Vernon died May 19, in Iraq,
of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire May 18 south of Baghdad.
Collins was a paratrooper with the 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.
The scholarship fund set up by the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ
is at the Herring National Bank in Vernon.
It will be awarded to a Vernon High School graduate beginning next year.
