Approved Southwest Idaho Community College Gets Big Grant
June 1, 2007 - Posted in College GrantThe J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation is donating $10 million to help jump-start the College of Western Idaho in the Treasure Valley. “We can’t say enough about the citizens of the Treasure Valley who last week showed their support for a comprehensive community college in this valley,” Joe Scott, chairman of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, said in a news release. “In one vote, they have accomplished what no one else has been able to accomplish in 25 years.”
Voters in Ada and Canyon Counties narrowly approved a community college during an election last week. The vote ended the Treasure Valley’s distinction as the nation’s largest urban center without access to a comprehensive public community college.
The new college will be called the College of Western Idaho.
