Georgia College grant to fund Baldwin County school programs
June 1, 2007 - Posted in College GrantAn $800,000 grant to Georgia College & State University will fund an academic and enrichment program for middle and high school students in Baldwin County, the college announced Tuesday.
The Georgia Department of Education Century Community Learning Centers grant is set to be awarded for a five-year period, provided the Georgia State Board of Education gives it future appropriations and approval, according to the college.
The program, dubbed Youth Enrichment Services - or YES for short - will begin Sept. 10 and provide academic and enrichment activities after school Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays. Students who are eligible for schoolwide programs under the federal No Child Left Behind Act may participate in the program, which is a partnership between Georgia College, Baldwin County Recreation Department and Baldwin County schools, with help from Baldwin Connect.
Initially, the program will serve at least 175 students, and eventually could serve up to 394, according to a news release.
