More than 2,200 winners of Merit Scholarship awards financed by colleges and universities were announced by National Merit Scholarship Corp. Officials of each sponsor college selected scholarship winners from among finalists in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

Students from the area whose names were released last week are: Emma Farnsworth of Homestead High School, National Merit Kenyon College Scholarship; Gretchen Kasting of Carroll High School, National Merit DePauw University Scholarship; Abram Magner of Heritage High School, National Merit Purdue University Scholarship; N atalie Sistrunk of Homestead High School, National Merit University of Alabama Scholarship; and C olin Fritz of Woodlan High School, National Merit Purdue University Scholarship.
