UCF med school finds first 2 scholarship donors
June 15, 2007 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipRasesh Thakkar, senior managing director of the Tavistock Group, and Michael Minton, managing shareholder for Dean Mead, became the first to donate to the University of Central Florida College of Medicine’s scholarship fund.
As previously reported in OBJ, Deborah German, dean of the UCF College of Medicine, is on a fundraising mission to raise $6.4 million to provide scholarships for all 40 students in the school’s inaugural class.
Scholarships will provide each student with $20,000 for tuition and $20,000 for living expenses over four years.
Minton and Thakkar have each committed to fund one scholarship and are challenging the Central Florida community to follow their example.
“When the opportunity to make a commitment to the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine arose, it seemed like a natural fit for us,” Minton says. “In order for the dean to achieve her goal, we encourage other businesses to step up to the plate and help us fill the college’s goal of 40 scholarships for the charter class.”
