Top scholarship chance for 11

ELEVEN students have been offered the chance to study at the finest international educational institutions, including Harvard University, under this year’s Crown Prince International Scholarship Programme.

The scholarship programme aims to nurture the minds of Bahrain’s future leaders through education.

It provides the country’s most gifted and talented youth, support and assistance on their academic journey.

“It’s an honour for me to be chosen in the scholarship programme,” said 17-year-old Mashael Adnan Fakhro at a Press conference at the Crown Prince’s Court in Riffa to introduce the students to the media.

“This opportunity makes me feel like I have a reason to make a difference.

“It was very competitive to get where I am now, but it was this drive that pushed me to be here today.”

The Bahrain Bayan School student will be attending Harvard University.

She said that her family were all big achievers in education and they have helped and supported her throughout her school life.

“I have always had a passion for math and I chose this field because it’s the only one that is filled with certainty,” said Mashael.

Isa Town Secondary Girls School graduate Zainab Hassan Abdulla said that she plans to study surgery.

The 17-year-old, A-Levels graduate from the British Counci will be attending Sedbergh School in the UK.

“Everyone wants to feel like they can make a difference and being in this programme will give you the chance to do that,” she said.

“I always loved biology because it has such wide horizons to explore,

“When I was told that I got the scholarship over the phone I was in shock.

“My hard work has paid off and I am very grateful for this opportunity.

“I want to thank the Crown Prince Court for giving us this chance.”

Hassan Kadhim Al Halwachi said that he owes his success to his mother who helped him reach this far.

“My brother was previously in this programme, but he failed to get a scholarship so my mother made sure that I worked extra hard,” said the 18-year-old, Al Naim Secondary Boys School graduate.

“Anyone can get into this programme if they work hard enough.

“The most important thing, however, is enhancing your English language and that is what I did.

“English was the most important thing to me so I made sure that I take courses when I was young.

“After that I knew that I wanted to study chemical engineering because I feel that it can make a big difference in our lives.

The other recipients include Mishal Emad Awadah, Mahmood Adel Abdulla, Mohammed Abdulnabi Al Sadadi, Fatema Al Rayes, Fatema Abdulla Ahmed Kayed, Alia Sayed Redha, Subah Khalid Buali, and Hassan Tariq Al Hassan.

The Crown Prince International Scholarship Fund was launched in May last year, opening the door for private sector contributions to the programme.

The International Scholarship Fund allowed the programme to expand into offering select scholars the opportunity to pursue their Master’s and Doctoral degrees, as well as provide funding for educations enrichment programmes for undergraduates.

The fund includes three sponsorship packages, which cover a period of five years.

The sponsorship packages include the Platinum package, which is sponsored by Alba, Batelco, Gulf Finance House, Investcorp and Kuwait Finance House.

The Gold is sponsored by National Bank of Bahrain and Bapco, while the Silver is sponsored by Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait, United Gulf Bank, Ahli United Bank, Ramada Hotel Bahrain, Bahrain Islamic Bank, Khaleej Finance and Investment Company, Gulf International Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and SICO Investment Bank.

The programme is accepting applications for next year’s group and the deadline for applications is Sunday.

Students must submit applications and other relevant documents to the Scholarship Office at the Crown Prince Court before 2pm.
