Liberia Citizens Benefit From Indian Scholarship

Two nominees of the government of Liberia in the employ of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) have been awarded three months scholarship by the government of India.

The two employees, Mr. Isaac Nyanplu Teah and Mrs. Mae Angie Brooks are to undergo training in “Advanced Software Technology under the ITEC Programme.

The training is from July 9th - September 28th 2007, in New Delhi, India. The scholarship is geared towards the development of trained manpower and capacity building of human resources in Liberia.

Speaking at a brief ceremony held at the Indian Consulate Office before the departure of the candidates, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva (Jeety), Honorary Consul General of India to Liberia said the provision of the scholarships by the government of India is part its policy of sharing India’s experience with other developing countries.

Besides, he it is also a part of India’s technical assistance to Non-aligned Movement (NAM) countries in line with the principles of South-South Cooperation.

He cautioned the nominees to take full advantage of the opportunity afforded them and urged them to play a meaningful role in the economic development of post war Liberia upon their return to Liberia.

India’s Honorary Consul General, Upjit Singh Sachdeva then assured Liberians that he would seek more and more training opportunities from his government for Liberians.

He said his government is committed to assisting Liberia in the area of manpower development as a means of helping Liberia in its post war reconstruction efforts.

Some Liberians have benefited from the Indian scholarships over the years. In response, the nominees thanked the government of India and its Honorary Consul in Liberia, Mr. Jeety.
