Lots Of Scholarship Money Available

School board staff and trustees are entertained and informed prior to each bi-monthly meeting by delegations from schools with achievements to share.
It’s called “Good News from the Schools.â€
Tuesday night’s board meeting showcased some scholarship winners from ADSS’s 2006/07 grad class.
“We spend a fair amount of time in planning with the students,†said principal Mike Ruttan in a conversation with the Westcoaster.ca.
Locally about $85,000 goes out to students in scholarship funds each year.
There’s another $50,000 or so from local groups.
Passport to the World funds are available, as well as the province’s Millennium scholarships for youth displaying leadership qualities.
Money is also handed out by colleges and universities.
ADSS is good at encouraging students to apply for what’s out there, said Ruttan.
Trustees were introduced to 27 recipients of $1,000 each in Dogwood Certificate Scholarships this week.
They were told also about half a dozen students who received significant University of BC scholarships and seven more who got University of Victoria scholarships.
