The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust has donated $25,000 to Winston-Salem State University to establish a scholarship in the name of WSSU Board of Trustees chair Nigel Alston and his wife, Sarah.

The gift recognizes Alston’s long-standing involvement with the Kate B. Reynolds Poor and Needy Division’s advisory board, according to an announcement from the university.

Scholarships will go to deserving low-income students from Forsyth County with “outstanding academic credentials,” the university said. The award will be for one academic year and may be renewed.

Alston is an executive with GMAC Insurance, and is also a popular motivational speaker and columnist.
