The summer study abroad program is one of UD’s most successful and attractive programs and provides students with the unique opportunity to take time to expand their cultural horizons without leaving their education behind. Each year the program grows and improves, and this year is no exception, according to Sally Raymont, the program’s director.

Summer study abroad allows students to change their life perspective while seeing some of the most beautiful cities in the world. Students who participate learn about themselves and their own culture by seeing it so closely contrasted to one foreign to them, said Raymont.

As communication and travel technology improve, the globe is quickly shrinking. Developing the skills to handle the barriers of cultural and sociological difference can be crucial in almost any career. Students also can improve their language skills, develop their résumé and still do all this while fulfilling a number of graduation requirements.

This year the program has several new and distinguishing features, including two new locations of study: Athens, Greece, and Leipzig, Germany.

Raymont said that the program is changing this year by becoming “more integrated and interdisciplinary.”

“Integration includes the faculty working more closely so they are connecting their classes to provide a more fluid experience,” she said.

Students will also make the city their classroom, learning about it and from it through their classes.

Locations include Shanghai, London, Paris, Rome and many others. A full list can be found at the Center for International Programs Web site, international.udayton.edu.

Certain programs have specific curriculum, in areas such as communication, business, law, engineering, biology and service. There are also general programs that involve an interdisciplinary focus. This information for specific programs of study is also found on the Web site.

Enrollment for the programs can be done through the center’s Web site or by hard copy. Students can find more information and pick up a booklet at the center’s location on campus, Alumni Hall rooms 116 and 118.

There is a $240 application deposit fee, and the entire program can cost anywhere from $6,000 to $8,000 depending on the number of credit hours taken. The cost includes tuition of 6 to 10 credits, room and partial board. Students are responsible for their own airfare.

This program can be the chance of a lifetime to see the world and expand your education not only through classes but through personal life experience. The deadline is approaching, so take a look at the information now at international.udayton.edu
