Golf tournament supports scholarship
October 11, 2008 - Posted in ScholarshipMild October temperatures are drawing golfers out to local courses.
So why not tee off, enjoy a round with friends and benefit a scholarship in memory of a local fallen Texas DPS trooper?
The Fourth Annual Kurt Knapp Memorial Golf Tournament is Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Scott Schreiner Municipal Golf Course, 1 Country Club Drive.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at noon. The cost is $60 per player before Oct. 17 or $70 per player after Oct. 17.
The tournament will be four-person best ball format and cost includes greens fees, cart and steak dinner.
A wet May night in 2004 claimed the life of 28-year-old Knapp, a father, husband
and Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stationed in Fredericksburg.
The trooper died from injuries sustained in an accident when he was patrolling on Interstate 10 near Comfort.
Proceeds from the memorial tournament benefit the Kurt Knapp Memorial Scholarship, which will be offered to criminal justice students at Texas State University. Knapp received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in May 1998 when the university was called Southwest Texas State University.
Raised in Kerrville, Knapp was a 1994 graduate of Tivy High School. He joined the DPS in October 1998.
For those who are not golfers, donations for the memorial fund can be mailed to Kurt Knapp Memorial Fund, 216 CR 240 McCoy, TX 78113.
Hole sponsorships still are available for $100.
