A brunch was held on Sunday, May 31, at the Mountain View Chalet in Pattenburg to honor three graduating seniors from Hunterdon County ? Greta Elizabeth Hintz of Califon, Jennifer L. Lewaine of Pittstown and Caitlin Moran Liebel of Asbury ? as this year’s recipients of the Susan Yonaitis-Kastner Memorial Scholarship.

The Susan-Yonaitis-Kastner Memorial Fund was established in 2001 in memory of Susan Yonaitis-Kastner, a Hunterdon County resident who was employed as an office nurse for a local cardiology practice. On Dec. 13, 2000, she lost her battle to a rare chronic autoimmune disease at the age of 43. A memorial fund was established in 2001 following the diligent efforts of her colleagues and friends from the “Hunterdon Office Nurses.”

This year marks the eighth annual presentation. Each recipient received scholarships in the amount of $500. The scholarship is offered to Hunterdon County seniors pursuing careers in the health care field. All the recipients plan to pursue careers in nursing.

Greta Elizabeth Hintz is a graduating senior from Voorhees High School. She plans to attend Towson University in Towson, Md., and pursue a career in nursing. Her long-term goals are to become a nurse practitioner.

During her years at Voorhees, she has participated in field hockey, track, basketball and swimming; and volunteered in fundraising for the Lebanon Township Rescue Squad. She is also active in the Down Syndrome group of North West New Jersey. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and National German Honor Society.

Jennifer L. Lewaine is a graduating senior from Delaware Valley Regional High School. She plans to attend George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., and pursue a career in nursing.

During her years in high school, she has participated in cheerleading, track and volleyball. Lewaine has been active in the Girls Scouts and has volunteered for the Safe in Hunterdon, a women’s crisis center in Hunterdon County.

Caitlin Moran Liebel is a graduating senior from North Hunterdon High School. She plans to attend Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa., and pursue a career in nursing.

During her years at North Hunterdon, she participated in track and tennis. Liebel has done volunteer work for Hospice and Atlantic Home Care.
